Migrating from Windows XP to Windows 7 [Easy Transfer]

Windows 7 to facilitate the migration process integrates a small utility called File Transfer. Queta feature allows you to run in a simplified manner the process of transferring files and settings from one Windows computer to another. Transferring files using Windows you can choose what to transfer to your new computer and the method of transfer. You can transfer most files and program settings. There are several ways to migrate data from XP to Windows 7 but in this tutorial we’ll see how to use a USB stick or an external hard drive.

WHAT CAN YOU MOVE?

1. To access the File Transfer Windows, click Start, let’s move on initial activities and select Transfer Files. In the first dialog box that appears click Next to continue.

2. On the next screen, select Hard Disk or USB Flash Drive, select Set as new computer and continue.

3. Proceed by clicking NO, and in the “Specify if you need to install Windows Easy Transfer in the old computer” select and install it now.

4. Select USB Flash Drive and look to complete the process at this point we can move on the old computer and start the migration itself.

5. Connecting the USB stick, open My Computer and click on removable disk you just created, we await the preparation of data transfer and click Next.

6. Again select the option Hard Disk or USB Flash Drive to continue.

7. In the next dialog box, click Settings and look like old computer search of the elements that can be transferred.

8. Click the “Customize / Advanced you can select the items that can be transferred.

9. On the next screen we can choose whether to set a password to protect your files, click Next to finish.

10. Connect the USB stick, let’s move on Computer and select the appropriate disk, click on the file to restore to continue and the next dialog box we can view files and folders that will be transferred by clicking on Customize.

11. Once the transfer process, we can view a report click on View Items moved.
